Rawson's Retreat Shiraz
Cabernet
2001
Launched in 1995,
Rawson's Retreat is the introductory level for Penfolds
wines. The name Rawson's Retreat is an informal
reference to the stone cottage built in 1845 by Dr
Christopher Rawson Penfold at the famous Magill vineyard
in Adelaide, where with wife Mary and daughter
Geaorgina, he had settled the year before and was to
soon establish the Penfolds winery, which still operates
today.
Winemaker's Notes
Color
Bright, purple/red
body with youthful pink rim.
Nose
Fresh berries
and spice with attractive savoury notes. Summer berries
and blackcurrant come through, giving way to a lightly
herbal character at the back.
Palate
The palate has lovely
fresh berries and dark plum flavours with hallmark mid-palete
fleshiness and soft, approachable tannins. Good black
pepper spice on the back and subtle, savoury oak firms
up the finish. Fruit driven and ideal for early drinking
enjoyment
